A New Stove, A Warm Heart – Honoring the Scott Family’s Gift

A Gift That Warms the Heart—and the Kitchen

Thanks to the generosity of the Phyllis Scott Family, Union Congregational Church has a beautiful new stove at the heart of our kitchen. After many months of planning, installation, and patience, our long-awaited upgrade is complete—just in time for Rally Sunday, Monday Night Suppers, and a new season of community meals.

This stove isn’t just a piece of equipment. It represents decades of fellowship, countless shared meals, and the enduring spirit of generosity that sustains our church. The Scott family’s gift of $50,000 toward this project made it possible for our kitchen to serve the next generation of ministry and community gatherings.

A Long Journey to a Joyful Finish

The project began as a practical need—our old stove had faithfully served for years but could no longer keep up with the growing demands of community suppers and events. Supply chain delays and installation challenges stretched the process far longer than expected. Yet through it all, our volunteers kept showing up, cooking creatively, and finding joy in shared purpose.

In September 2025, the new stove was finally installed and ready for use. It was quickly put through its paces: cooking up Mark Fernald’s famous grape jelly, fueling a Sunday School breakfast, grilling for Rally Sunday, and baking pies for the fall Pie Sale.

Honoring a Legacy of Giving

A wall plaque will soon be mounted near the stove to honor Phyllis Scott’s lasting impact. Her generosity reflects a deep love for this church and its mission to serve with compassion.

This new stove will nourish both body and spirit for years to come—supporting Monday Night Suppers, fellowship gatherings, and the many meals that bring our congregation together as one community of faith.

Thank you to all who contributed time, talent, and resources to make this project possible: Geoff Frank, Dick Chamberlain, Martha Dahl, KaitLynne Foote, John Smith, Carele Mayer, Pastor Bob Marrone, Mary Ann Fleming, and many others.

Together, we’ve turned a practical improvement into a lasting expression of love and community.
